Bangladesh Emerging suffered a heavy defeat against South Africa Emerging in the second four-day match, losing by an innings and 16 runs at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.After South Africa Emerging declared their first innings at 497 for eight, Bangladesh were dismissed for 271 in their first innings. Forced to follow on, the visitors managed only 210 in their second innings, falling short of South Africa Emerging’s first-innings total by a significant margin.South Africa Emerging’s commanding total was built around a century from JP King and a half-century by Michael van Vuuren.Bangladesh’s first innings saw half-centuries from Mahfijul Islam Robin and Iftikhar Hossain Ifti, but the team could not prevent South Africa from enforcing the follow-on.Resuming on 94 for three on the fourth morning, Ifti and Chowdhury Mohammad Rizwan attempted to stabilise the innings. Ifti reached his second half-century of the match from 128 balls.Rizwan, however, was dismissed in the same over in which Ifti completed his fifty. The right-hander attempted a slog sweep against spinner Schelk Engelbrecht but was caught at mid-on after scoring 28 off 95 balls.Ifti also departed after reaching his half-century. The left-handed opener attempted to cut a delivery outside off stump from Engelbrecht but edged it to the wicketkeeper. He made 59 off 153 balls.Aminul Islam Biplob and Mohammad Abdullah then tried to build a partnership, but their resistance did not last long.Biplob was dismissed shortly after the lunch interval, edging a drive against a delivery outside off stump from the right-arm spinner to the slip cordon. He scored 13 off 43 balls.The lower order offered little resistance, with Moin Khan, Rohan and Mehedi Hasan departing in quick succession.Abdullah was the last batter dismissed, scoring 44, as Bangladesh Emerging were bowled out for 210.Engelbrecht was the standout bowler for South Africa Emerging, claiming five wickets in the innings.The defeat came after Bangladesh ‘A’ had also suffered a massive innings-and-413-run loss to South Africa ‘A’, underlining the struggles of Bangladesh’s batters on the tour.
