Iran has warned South Korea against deploying troops or taking part in military operations in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, saying any such move would be considered direct support for the United States and could have “serious consequences.”Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei issued the warning in a post on X on Monday (September 7), addressing South Korea in the Korean language.Baghaei said Iran and South Korea have maintained relations for more than 64 years based on mutual respect. He added that Tehran attaches great importance to its friendly ties with Seoul.However, he warned that any military presence or operational involvement by a third party in the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz would be regarded as direct assistance to the “aggressor” and could lead to serious consequences.Baghaei said the Iranian people were currently defending themselves against what he described as aggressive actions and were responding firmly to alleged US war crimes against women and children.He further said no sovereign and responsible government should give in to US pressure or “blackmail” to participate in what he called aggressive and despicable actions against the Iranian people.The Iranian spokesperson also accused Washington of trying to shift the burden of the damage caused by a war it started onto other countries.
