Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh has demanded the removal of sculptures depicting Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists from the July Uprising Memorial Museum.The demand was made on Saturday at the Jamiat Dhaka South Metropolitan unit’s conference at the National Press Club. Jamiat leaders said sculptures of individuals or activists of any Islamic organisation are prohibited under Islamic Shariah.Jamiat President Maulana Ubaidullah Farooq said all political parties agree on implementing the July Charter, but notes of dissent submitted during its drafting were not properly considered.Secretary General Maulana Manjurul Islam Afendi called for all political parties’ views to be considered in the reform process. He also urged the government to address rising prices of essential goods, market syndicates and public hardships.The council formed a 61-member Dhaka South committee, with Mufti Mahbubul Alam as president and Mufti Nurul Alam Ishaqi as general secretary.
