Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Joint Secretary General and Narsingdi district BNP President Khairul Kabir Khokon has been named chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.Khokon is the incumbent lawmaker from the Narsingdi-1 (Narsingdi Sadar) constituency. He was elected to parliament from the constituency in the 13th parliamentary election. Earlier, he was elected an MP for the first time from the same constituency in a by-election in 2005.A former elected general secretary of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), Khokon played a role as a student leader in the anti-autocracy movement in the 1980s.As chairman of the parliamentary standing committee, Khokon will lead the committee in reviewing the activities of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and examining issues related to its parliamentary oversight.In addition to his parliamentary responsibilities, Khokon was also nominated as a member of the Dhaka University Senate in 2026. His appointment as chairman of the standing committee adds another key parliamentary responsibility to his political career, which includes senior positions in the BNP and leadership roles in Narsingdi.
