Seven Bodies Found in 10 Days Spark Fear in Keraniganj

A sense of fear has spread among residents of Keraniganj after seven bodies were recovered from different areas of the upazila within the past 10 days.The incidents include several suspected murders, a mysterious death and the recovery of bodies of three women and a mason, raising concerns over security in the Dhaka suburb.On Saturday, the body of Md Chan Mia, 65, a mason, was recovered from an abandoned brick kiln area behind Ad-din Momin Medical College Hospital in Shuvadya union. The body had injury marks and was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital for autopsy.Earlier, on 30 July, the body of auto-rickshaw driver Liyakat Ali, 60, was found in Bhatarakandi area of Hazratpur. Police later arrested suspects in the stabbing case.The murder of teenager Tanzila in Madinanagar on 28 July drew widespread attention. The PBI arrested her boyfriend Rana Howlader within 24 hours and recovered the alleged murder weapon, mobile phone and stolen jewellery. He later gave a confessional statement before the court.On 26 July, police recovered the body of Momtaz, 30, from Kholamora and later arrested a suspect named Mintu in connection with the murder. On the same day, an unidentified woman’s decomposed body was recovered from an abandoned plot in the Jhilmil residential project. Her identity is yet to be confirmed.On 21 July, the body of Ruhul Amin, 40, was found hanging in Kholamora. Police said he was reportedly facing financial difficulties and filed an unnatural death case.Additional Superintendent of Police of Keraniganj Circle Mohammad Jamilul Haque said the major murder cases involving Tanzila, Momtaz and Liyakat Ali had already been solved, with the accused arrested. He said investigations into the remaining cases, including the deaths of the unidentified woman and Chan Mia, are ongoing.Residents have urged authorities to increase patrols in isolated areas, strengthen security measures and complete investigations quickly.
