Burundian national Pentra Bushima Amin’s journey to Islam began when she was just 14. A Muslim friend invited her to learn about Islam and introduced her to its values, morality and teachings.Deeply moved by what she learned, Pentra eventually decided to embrace Islam. She accepted Islam in the presence of her family. Later, four more members of her family, including her parents and sister, also embraced Islam.Soon after converting, Pentra began learning the Holy Quran. With strong determination and sincere interest, she started memorising the Quran and completed the memorisation of the entire scripture in just five months.She continued to practise regularly and gradually developed her skills in Quran recitation.Memorising the Quran, however, was not the end of her journey. She later participated in a local Quran competition in Burundi, where around 500 contestants took part. Pentra secured first place in the competition.Following that achievement, she was selected to represent Burundi at the King Abdulaziz International Quran Memorisation, Recitation and Tafsir Competition in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.Pentra is now representing Burundi at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, taking part in the 46th edition of the King Abdulaziz International Quran Memorisation, Recitation and Tafsir Competition.A total of 334 male and female contestants from 133 countries are participating in this year’s competition. Pentra is among the Quran memorizers from around the world showcasing their skills at the prestigious event.
