A Dhaka court on Thursday placed actor Ashraful Haque, popularly known as Don, on a five-day remand in a murder case filed over the death of popular Bangladeshi film actor Salman Shah.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate-10 Judge Jewel Rana passed the order after hearing both sides. CID Inspector Md M H M Mujibur Rahman, the investigation officer of the case, had sought a seven-day remand for Don.The CID told the court that interrogating Don in custody could help investigators obtain important information about Salman Shah’s death and identify others who may have been involved in the case.Investigators also want to know how and why Don allegedly attempted to leave the country despite a travel ban, and whether anyone had encouraged or assisted him in doing so.Don was detained by immigration police from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area on August 9. He was subsequently sent to jail after being produced before a Dhaka court.Salman Shah died on September 6, 1996. A case of unnatural death was initially filed over his death. Following a lengthy legal process, a court in October 2025 ordered that the matter be treated as a murder case. Salman Shah’s maternal uncle subsequently filed the murder case with Ramna Police Station.The case names 11 people as accused, including Don.
