Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaid has said that India will have to decide the future direction of Bangladesh-India relations. She made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Thursday evening in response to a press conference held in Delhi by Bangladesh’s ousted former prime minister and convicted Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina on August 5.Shama Obaid said she believes both the people and governments of Bangladesh and India want stronger bilateral relations.“However, if authoritarian and convicted Awami League leaders continue carrying out activities from Indian territory and the Indian government does not stop such actions, it will create concerns among the people of Bangladesh,” she said. She said the relationship between the two neighbouring countries is multidimensional and that various issues should be resolved through discussions.“The decision now rests with India-whether it will allow statements by authoritarian, convicted individuals or not,” she added.
