BAU professor honoured as Distinguished Teacher

Professor Dr Md Bahanur Rahman, dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), has been honoured as a ‘Distinguished Teacher’ on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day 2026.He received the crest and certificate at a ceremony at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Monday. He was recognised in the agricultural university category for his contribution to teaching, research and student welfare.Dr Bahanur completed his bachelor’s degree in veterinary science from BAU in 1987 and a master’s in microbiology in 1991. He joined the university as a lecturer the same year and later obtained his PhD from Japan, followed by postdoctoral research in Taiwan and Germany. He became a professor in 2005.Beyond teaching, he has supported students facing financial hardship and helped them pursue higher education and careers. One student he assisted during the Covid-19 pandemic is now pursuing a PhD in the United States, while another student he supported is now a cadre officer in the livestock sector.He has also encouraged students to engage in research, keeping the microbiology laboratory accessible beyond regular hours. His research areas include antimicrobial resistance, vaccines, probiotics and duck plague.“I am extremely happy and proud to have been selected as a Distinguished Teacher by the Bangladesh government,” Dr Bahanur said.He expressed hope that the recognition would inspire teachers and strengthen teaching and research at universities across the country.
