Bangladesh have climbed to fourth place in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 standings after securing a historic nine-wicket victory over Australia in Darwin.The win marked Bangladesh’s first Test victory on Australian soil. It came 23 years after Bangladesh played their first-ever Test against Australia at the same venue.The victory also significantly improved Bangladesh’s points percentage. Before the match, their percentage stood at 58.33. Following the win, it rose to 66.67, lifting Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side to fourth in the standings.Australia, despite suffering their second defeat in the current WTC cycle, remain at the top with a points percentage of 77.77. However, their lead over second-placed South Africa has narrowed. South Africa currently have 75.00 percent.New Zealand occupy third place with 72.22 percent, while Bangladesh have now closed the gap with the three teams above them.India are fifth with a points percentage of 48.15.Bangladesh’s historic victory in Darwin has therefore given them a significant boost in the WTC race. The Tigers now have another opportunity to improve their position when they face Australia in the second Test of the series.A second consecutive victory could propel Bangladesh even further up the championship standings.
