Commercial gas supply from Titas-28 well at Suhilpur in Brahmanbaria Sadar has begun, adding around 12.5 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid.State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit inaugurated the supply operation on Saturday.Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, the state minister said the government has a specific plan to address the gap between gas supply and demand by 2030. Successful implementation of the plan, he said, could help resolve the ongoing energy crisis affecting industries, power generation and households.Drilled by Chinese contractor CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Ltd, the Titas-28 well has a depth of 3,601 metres. It is expected to produce 12-13 million cubic feet of gas daily, with an average output of around 12.5 million cubic feet.The project cost around Tk 200 crore, including VAT and income tax.The well was drilled under a project to develop four appraisal-cum-development wells at the Titas and Kamta fields. An agreement with the Chinese drilling contractor was signed on April 10, 2025. Drilling of Titas-28 began on December 15, 2025 and was completed successfully on June 19, 2026.After the inauguration, the state minister and other guests inspected the ongoing drilling of the Titas-31 and Titas-29 deep exploratory wells. The event was attended by Engineer Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce, and Energy Secretary Md Ziaul Haque, among others.
