The High Court has released its full verdict acquitting Amir Hossain alias Jamal, who had been sentenced to death in a child rape and murder case in Hathazari, Chattogram, 21 years after the incident.The full judgment was published on Wednesday morning. The court observed that Amir Hossain had been arrested despite the actual accused not being apprehended.On Tuesday (September 1), a High Court bench acquitted Amir, who had spent years on death row. The court also ordered that he be released from the condemned cell without delay.In 2019, the Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 sentenced Amir to death for the rape and murder of child Julia Akter.Case backgroundAccording to the case details, Julia Akter, a child, had gone to visit her paternal aunt’s house in Mekhal village of Hathazari on May 16, 2005.Amir Hossain, who worked there as a day labourer, was accused in the case. The High Court, in its full verdict, found that Amir had been arrested in the case without the actual perpetrator being apprehended.
