In a Facebook post on Saturday, Patwary
questioned why members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) would need
leaked examination questions to secure jobs.
Do BNP people not study? Why do questions have
to be leaked for them to sit for examinations? he wrote.
Patwary alleged that roads, bus terminals, tempo
stands and marketplaces were being taken over, while extortion, violence and
land grabbing were threatening the livelihoods of businesspeople. He warned
that the recruitment sector was now also being pushed towards destruction.
Stressing the need for transparency in public
administration, the NCP leader called for a recruitment system free from
corruption and political influence.
“If you want to run the country, at least keep
the job market transparent and free from corruption. How can the country
function if political identity replaces merit, lobbying replaces
qualifications, and question leaks replace examinations?” he wrote.
Warning of the potential consequences of such
practices, Patwary said a party could eventually bring about its own downfall
through short-sighted actions, comparing the situation to “eating its own
tail”.
At the end of his post, he called for all
examinations to be free from question leaks and for an end to the misuse of
quotas and political favouritism in recruitment.
He also urged political actors to abandon
extortion and land grabbing and work towards building a Bangladesh based on
merit, qualifications and justice.
The allegations were made by Patwary in his Facebook post. The post itself does not establish whether the alleged question leaks or other activities have been independently verified.
