China has called on the United States to stop military threats and unilateral sanctions against Cuba following reports that the Pentagon is reviewing possible military options targeting the island nation.Speaking on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing is closely monitoring the situation and reiterated its opposition to foreign interference in Cuba’s internal affairs. She said China would firmly support Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and work with all parties to uphold international justice and fairness. The remarks came after a CBS News report claimed that senior US defence officials had examined several military contingency plans for Cuba, including a scenario involving an air assault supported by thousands of troops from the 101st Airborne Division.According to the report, the US military held a preliminary meeting in late June to assess operational plans, troop requirements, logistics and potential risks. However, US officials stressed that President Donald Trump has neither authorised any military action nor made a final decision.Meanwhile, The Associated Press (AP) reported that no immediate military operation is being prepared. It said military options remain part of contingency planning and that President Trump could alter his position depending on future developments.
