Tarique reached Banshkhali
around 1:15pm after inspecting the Matarbari deep-sea port, the coal-fired
power project and the activities of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development
Authority (MIDA).
The Baharchhara seafront
turned into a crowded gathering as supporters from different areas joined
processions and chanted slogans. Large numbers of people also gathered around
the programme venue.
The prime minister is
visiting Banshkhali to attend a rehabilitation programme for people affected by
the recent devastating floods. Relief materials are scheduled to be
distributed, while the keys to newly built homes will be handed over to 100
homeless families.
After the Banshkhali
programme, Tarique is scheduled to visit Babunagar Madrasa in Fatikchhari,
where he is expected to meet Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Muhibbullah
Babunagari and hold discussions with the organisation’s central and
district-level leaders.
He will then visit
Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari to pay respects
at the grave of Hefazat founder Ameer Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi. He is also
scheduled to attend a rehabilitation programme for flood victims at Hathazari
Government College ground.
The prime minister’s final engagement of the day is scheduled to be a BNP organisational meeting at Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View in the evening.
