The United States is sending another 2,000 Marines to the Middle East while deploying a third aircraft carrier and a second Marine expeditionary unit to the region.
A US official told Al Jazeera about the latest
deployment.
According to the official, the USS Theodore
Roosevelt left San Diego on Sunday as part of efforts to strengthen the US
military presence under the Central Command (CENTCOM) in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, an oil tanker came under attack in the
strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Al Jazeera reported the incident during its live
coverage of the Iran war.
The broadcaster said the increased US military
presence in the Middle East and the tanker attack in the Strait of Hormuz were
among the latest developments in the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
