The Mirpur-11 metro rail station was temporarily closed today following clashes and repeated chases between police and garment workers protesting over their demand for a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000.
Garment workers took to the streets in the
Mirpur-11 area from Tuesday morning, disrupting the situation and triggering
tensions with law enforcement agencies. The protest later escalated into
clashes and repeated chases between the workers and police.
The MRT Police Control Room confirmed the
temporary suspension of commercial operations at the station.
According to the control room, tensions and
confrontations between garment workers and police had been reported in Mirpur
Section 11 since the morning. As the situation turned violent, authorities
decided to suspend operations at the station to ensure the safety of metro rail
passengers and protect station facilities.
No trains are currently stopping at Mirpur-11
station, and passengers are not being allowed to board or disembark there.
However, metro rail services at other stations
remain operational as usual.
The MRT Police Control Room said the Mirpur-11 station would reopen once the situation returns to normal.
