Towhid Hridoy has responded to the disappointment of his previous outing with a remarkable maiden Test century, standing firm amid Bangladesh's batting collapse against the West Indies in the Sylhet Test.

While the hosts continued to lose wickets, Hridoy emerged as their lone resistance, reaching three figures and remaining unbeaten at the lunch break on the third day. His innings has kept Bangladesh's hopes alive, with the West Indies still firmly in control.

Bangladesh reached 205 for seven at lunch on Sunday, trailing the visitors by 151 runs in the first innings. Hridoy was unbeaten on 100, having reached his century off 171 deliveries, with 11 fours and a six.

The milestone marked Hridoy's first Test hundred in his three-match career. Resuming the day at 88 for three, Bangladesh made a positive start, adding 33 runs in the first seven overs without losing a wicket. However, the momentum shifted with the dismissal of experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim. Attempting an expansive drive against Jomel Warrican's flighted delivery, Mushfiqur offered a straightforward catch to the fielder at short cover. He departed for 34.

Litton Das followed a similar route back to the pavilion. Trying to attack Warrican's slower delivery with an aggressive drive, the wicketkeeper-batter edged a catch to King at cover. Litton managed just eight runs.

After Litton's departure, Hridoy found some support from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, with the pair adding 41 runs for the seventh wicket. Both batters appeared comfortable at the crease before Miraz's dismissal ended the partnership. Miraz attempted a paddle sweep against Chase but failed to keep the ball down. Justin Greaves, stationed at first slip, anticipated the shot, moved quickly to his right and pulled off an excellent diving catch.

Hasan, who had impressed with the ball, could contribute only one run with the bat. Taijul Islam was unbeaten on one at the interval, alongside Hridoy at the other end. With Bangladesh still trailing by 151 runs and three wickets remaining, Hridoy's unbeaten century remains crucial to the hosts' hopes of mounting a fightback.
