Residents of Bishwambharpur upazila in Sunamganj have expressed growing concern over allegations of drug trafficking, extortion and the activities of juvenile gangs in the area. According to local complainants, fear of retaliation has discouraged many people from speaking publicly about the issue.

Several residents alleged that Delwar Bhuiyan, 47, son of Suleman Mia, has long been accused of involvement in various criminal activities. They claim the allegations have contributed to a sense of insecurity in the locality, with many alleged victims reluctant to file complaints or speak out due to fear of reprisals.

Some residents also alleged that Delwar Bhuiyan is known to mention the name or influence of local BNP leader SM Mahbub Mallik while operating in the area. However, no statement from SM Mahbub Mallik was available regarding the allegation.

Locals have called for an impartial investigation to verify the allegations. They urged the authorities to take legal action against anyone found responsible, regardless of political affiliation or personal identity. They also demanded increased police patrols and tighter surveillance in the border-adjacent areas.

A responsible official at the local police station said that any specific complaint supported by information or evidence would be investigated seriously. Appropriate legal action would be taken if the allegations are found to be true.

Before publishing this report, attempts were made to contact both Delwar Hossain and SM Mahbub Mallik for their comments, but they could not be reached. Their statements will be included if they become available.
