To pay tribute to the
celebrated cultural figure, Artist Club has organised a special commemorative
event titled ‘Iconic Tuesday’,
scheduled to take place on September 8 at the organisation’s lounge in Banani,
Dhaka.
The programme will feature discussions
on Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s nearly six-decade-long career in songwriting and
filmmaking. Popular songs written by the legendary lyricist will also be
performed during the event.
His wife, Johra Gazi, and
son, Sarfaraz Anwar Upol, will attend the programme as guests and share
memories of his life and creative works.
The memorial discussion and
musical segment will begin at 7:30pm.
Speaking about the initiative
to honour his father, Sarfaraz Anwar Upol said Artist Club’s effort to
recognise distinguished figures from the world of art and culture deserves
appreciation.
He said the tribute to his
father is a matter of great pride and honour for their family.
Gazi Mazharul Anwar, one of
the most prominent lyricists in Bangla music, passed away on September 4, 2022.
During his career spanning
nearly 60 years, he wrote more than 20,000
songs.
In recognition of his significant contribution to
music and culture, he received the Ekushey
Padak in 2002 and the Independence
Award in 2021.
