The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian drugs and other smuggled goods worth around Tk 13.55 lakh in separate drives along the Kushtia border.The BGB confirmed the seizures in a press release issued on Monday.According to the release, members of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) conducted the operations based on specific intelligence information at different points along its area of responsibility.Around 2am on Monday, a BGB patrol team from Jamalpur Border Outpost (BOP) conducted a drive at Kashem Bazar. The team recovered 1,320 packets of Indian Pata brand cigarettes left abandoned at the site. The estimated seizure value was Tk 72,600.Earlier, around 12:30am, another team from Chilmari BOP conducted a drive at Morar Para graveyard. The team recovered 1,980 pieces of Indian dexamethasone tablets, 2,080 pieces of cyproheptadine tablets and 600 packets of Pata cigarettes.The estimated seizure value of the goods recovered from the site was Tk 12.51 lakh.In another operation, a BGB team from Bilgathua BOP raided South Bilgathua Field around 4:15am on Monday and recovered nine kilogrammes of Indian cannabis. The estimated seizure value of the drug was Tk 31,500.All the seized goods were found abandoned, and no one was arrested in connection with the operations.The commanding officer of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) said the force has been conducting regular intelligence operations and special drives to prevent drug trafficking, smuggling, illegal border crossings and other forms of cross-border crime. Such operations will continue in the future to ensure border security and curb transborder crimes, the BGB said.
