Intelligence reports, he claimed, indicate that a
group is supplying money from across the border, while another group operating
within the country is attempting to destabilise the situation by fomenting
labour unrest in factories and engaging in other subversive activities.
He made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing a
large public rally in Rajshahi organised to distribute government incentive
funds among sugarcane farmers.
“We have clear intelligence information that the
autocrat who fled the country is sending money from across the border, and
their associates are using that money to create various forms of disorder and
instability inside the country. Labour unrest is being deliberately instigated
in different factories,” the prime minister said.
Criticising political groups that he accused of
misleading voters ahead of the election, Tarique said the people had rejected
those who spread falsehoods and pursued what he described as the politics of
selling tickets.
He alleged that those groups had now joined
forces again to undermine the country's normal progress and stability.
Calling for national unity to rebuild the
country, Tarique said Bangladesh could not depend on outsiders to develop it.
“No one will come from abroad to build our
country for us. We must turn the 400 million hands of the country's 200 million
people into a productive workforce and change our own destiny,” he said.
The prime minister strongly pledged to begin and
complete the construction of barrages on the Teesta and Padma rivers soon to
ensure the northern region receives its fair share of water.
He also outlined several social and development
initiatives, including providing a “Family Card” to every household to help
marginalised women become economically self-reliant and distributing
“Agriculture Cards” to protect farmers.
He further pledged to revive the canal excavation
programme and increase the capacity of every upazila hospital to 150 beds.
Urging people to stand alongside the BNP government in its efforts to build the country and resist what he described as conspiracies, Tarique concluded his speech with the slogan: We will work, we will build the country — Bangladesh for all.
