Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday launched a three-month nationwide campaign to prevent dengue and improve cleanliness amid a rise in dengue cases in Dhaka and other parts of the country. He formally inaugurated the “Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign 2026” at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at around 9:30am.

The campaign will run from September 12 to December 12, with the government making its utmost efforts to tackle the dengue situation within the next three months, the prime minister said. Bangladesh belongs to everyone. So, we must build the country together. Change is possible if we all make a collective effort,” Tarique Rahman said while addressing the inauguration programme. He urged people to remain conscious about cleanliness to keep their families, communities and the country healthy.

The prime minister also called on citizens to spend one hour every day on cleaning activities. We have to protect our families and the country through cleanliness, he said. The nationwide campaign was announced as dengue infections continued to rise across the country. Earlier, on Wednesday (September 9), State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam informed Parliament through a statement under Rule 300 that the government was launching the campaign ahead of the peak dengue season.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had announced the three-month campaign from September 12 to December 12. The state minister also said the prime minister had held a meeting with the ministries of Local Government and Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday to review the dengue situation and coordinate measures for prevention and treatment. The campaign is aimed at strengthening nationwide efforts to control dengue through coordinated prevention and cleanliness activities.
