The incident occurred around
11:30am as the Dhalaarchar Express was travelling from Pabna to Rajshahi, said
Jiaul Islam, station manager of Rajshahi Railway Station.
Earlier in the morning, train
services on all routes connecting Rajshahi had remained suspended for around
one and a half hours after a section of railway track broke in Bagatipara of
Natore.
According to the station
manager, the Dhalaarchar Express had travelled around 200 yards after leaving
Harian Station when the trolley attached to the wheels of one of its carriages
broke down.
As a result, two wheels of
the carriage derailed.
Since the incident occurred
on the main line, train movement on all routes to and from Rajshahi has been
halted, Jiaul Islam said.
“A relief train carrying
recovery equipment has left Ishwardi to rescue the derailed carriage. Train
services will resume after the carriage is removed from the track,” he said.
The railway official said it could take until
around 2:30pm to 3:00pm for train services to return to normal after the
recovery operation is completed.
