Court grants 5-day remand of David Imon in extortion case

A Chattogram court today granted a fresh five-day remand of alleged top criminal Mobarak Hossain Imon alias David Imon in an extortion case filed with Hathazari Police Station.

Chattogram Judicial Magistrate Lokman Hakim passed the order after a hearing on Wednesday.

Police had sought a seven-day remand for David Imon in the case. Following the hearing, the court granted five days.

Earlier on August 2, Chattogram Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Motasim Billah had granted him a 10-day remand in the same case.

Habibur Rahman, court inspector of Chattogram district police, confirmed the development.

“Police sought a seven-day remand in the extortion case filed with Hathazari Police Station. After hearing, the court granted a five-day remand,” he said.

David Imon and three others were arrested from the Jhumjhumpur area of Jashore's Kotwali Police Station on July 29.

According to district police, his whereabouts were traced through intelligence activities and information obtained during the investigation into the murder of Maksudul Haque Chowdhury in Pahartali on June 13.

Based on information provided by the arrestees, police conducted a raid early on July 30 at an abandoned house in Manikpur area of Kanchannagar Union in Fatikchhari.

Police said they recovered a foreign-made pistol, two locally made LG firearms and other weapons from the house.

Police said David Imon is facing 13 cases, including murder, arms and extortion cases, filed with different police stations in Chattogram city and district.

Investigators are also looking into his alleged involvement in several other murders, police said.
