BSF hands over body of Bangladeshi man killed in Pirganj border shooting

The Border Security Force (BSF) handed over the body of a Bangladeshi man nearly 40 hours after he was shot dead near the Pirganj border in Thakurgaon.

The body of Asadul Haque, 38, was handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at around 9:00pm on Sunday (September 13) at the Danajpur border. Members of Pirganj Police Station and Raiganj Police Station in India were present during the handover.

Lt Col Abdullah Al Moin, commander of Dinajpur Battalion-42 of the BGB, confirmed the development.

Asadul was shot by BSF personnel inside Indian territory near the Pirganj border. Two other Bangladeshi youths, Mostakim, 32, and Shri Uda Roy, 34, were also detained by the BSF following the incident.

The shooting took place early Saturday near Main Pillar No. 333 in the area under the jurisdiction of Chandarhat Border Outpost of the BGB. Asadul was the son of Abdul Wazed Ali of Indrail village in Pirganj upazila. Mostakim is the son of Wahed Ali, while Shri Uda Roy is the son of Munsha Narayan, both from the same area.

According to local sources, a BSF patrol team from the 63 Chaksibhananda camp opened fire in the area under the jurisdiction of Main Pillar No. 333. All three men were seriously injured in the shooting.

The BSF later took the injured men to Kaliaganj General Hospital in India, where Asadul died while undergoing treatment.
