Known for his involvement in
humanitarian and social activities, Biplab Bhuiyan is also regarded locally as
an education-minded person who comes from a politically established family.
Local voters believe that
Biplab Bhuiyan could secure a decisive victory if he contests the election for
the ward member post. His supporters say his long-standing involvement in
various social activities has helped him build acceptance among residents of
the ward.
Biplab Bhuiyan’s family has a
long political legacy in the area. According to locally available information,
the family residence in Bhaterchar became known as ‘Chairman Bari’ in 1908. His
family member, Shah Sufi Abdul Latif Bhuiyan, served as chairman of the then 32
unions of greater Raipura. Later, when Belabo Thana was formed with eight
unions and the Narayanpur Union Board was established, he served as its
chairman.
His cousin, Comrade Shamsul
Haque Bhuiyan, subsequently served as chairman of Narayanpur Union. Later, Abu
Tarek Al-Hussain Bhuiyan became the first chairman of Belabo Upazila and
subsequently served again as chairman of Narayanpur Union.
Biplab Bhuiyan said he is a
successor to the Chairman Bari family and wants to continue its political
tradition by remaining close to the people. He said he is preparing to contest
the election, taking into consideration the expectations and support of local
residents.
Many local voters believe that Biplab Bhuiyan
enjoys considerable support in Ward No. 3 because of both his family’s
political heritage and his involvement in social and humanitarian activities.
However, his actual strength in the electoral race will ultimately be
determined by the voters’ verdict.
