Ishraq Bhai has recently started working in
politics in a new way. His intentions were good; he wanted to stop drug-related
activities. But he fell into a trap because of the home minister’s failure, Patwary said.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters
after exchanging Durga Puja greetings at Dhakeshwari Temple in Dhaka on Monday
morning.
The problem lies with the home minister. Why did
Ishraq Bhai have to face gunfire? The home minister makes mistakes, and someone
else suffers the consequences. This is essentially the home minister’s failure.
Ishraq Bhai got caught in the middle, he said.
Patwary also questioned the security situation of
the Hindu community under the BNP government.
He said assurances had been given that the
government would ensure the safety of everyone, including Hindus, but members
of the community were not doing well.
The BNP government has failed to provide them
with proper security, he said, adding that data cited over the past three to
four months had also indicated incidents of vandalism in several places.
Referring to the cow-slaughter incident at
Jagannath University, Patwary said the issue had been brought to his attention
so that he could convey the concerns to the public.
He urged members of the Muslim community to
remain mindful of the feelings of Hindus and avoid actions that could cause
them distress or hurt their sentiments.
Please do not label me the ‘new version of
Shahbagi Hindus’ for saying this. They asked me to convey their message to you.
They love you, and you love them too. I have simply delivered their message, he said.
Patwary called for dialogue between the two
communities to resolve misunderstandings, saying both sides were willing to sit
together.
He expressed hope that discussions would help clear up the misunderstandings and strengthen communal harmony.
