Long March against extortion, syndicates, and emerging authoritarianism: Nahid Islam
NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam speaks at the inaugural rally of the 11-party alliance’s peaceful long march from Dhaka to Chattogram at Motijheel in the capital

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has said the long march from Dhaka to Chattogram is aimed at protesting extortion, terrorism, drug trafficking and syndicates involved in the energy sector.

He made the remarks at the inaugural rally of the 11-party alliance’s peaceful long march from Dhaka to Chattogram at Motijheel in the capital on Saturday morning.

This long march is against extortionists, terrorists and drugs. It is against those who are trying to raise the prices of oil, gas and electricity through syndicates. It is also against those who have betrayed the mandate of 70 percent of the people, Nahid said.

He said the long march was also intended to prevent those who are seeking to become authoritarian again from establishing a new form of authoritarian rule.

We are calling on the people to join the long march in large numbers, the NCP leader said.
