Awami League leaders are allegedly inciting party activists from abroad, said SM Jilani, lawmaker from Gopalganj-3 (Tungipara-Kotalipara) and president of the BNP’s central Swechchhasebak Dal.He made the remarks while addressing a mass rally at the municipal market in Patgati Bazar of Tungipara upazila on Sunday afternoon, marking the 48th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).Awami League leaders have siphoned off the hard-earned money of the people of Bangladesh abroad through corruption. They are now living comfortably overseas with that money and inciting party activists back home. If you have the courage and political strength, come to the streets. We will confront you politically, and in no other way, Jilani said.Earlier, BNP leaders and activists brought out a colourful procession from Patgati bus stand. The procession passed through Gowhardanga Chowrangi and Patgati Bazar before ending at the municipal market, where the mass rally was held.Jilani said the BNP and its affiliated organisations had created history by staging such a large political procession in Tungipara.Those who are issuing threats from home and abroad through social media should know that the BNP does not believe in politics of revenge, he said.However, he warned that any provocation or unwanted interference against the BNP would be resisted on the streets with the support of the people of Tungipara and Kotalipara.This Tungipara is also my birthplace. It is also the birthplace of every person who is involved in BNP politics here. Therefore, conduct politics and speak with decency, Jilani said.Recalling the BNP’s prolonged political struggle, he said, For the past 17 years, I have crossed the Padma River to come here. So there is no point in trying to intimidate us with the Madhumati River. We fought against fascism for 17 years and led movements to establish the voting rights of the people of Bangladesh.Among others, Tungipara upazila BNP President Sheikh Salahuddin Ahmed, Vice-President Jillal Sheikh, Organising Secretary Khalid Biswas, municipal BNP President Emdad Molla, General Secretary Jihadul Islam Babu, Organising Secretary Gopal Sarker, Jubo Dal Member Secretary Aminul Islam, BNP leader Akbar Hossain, Barni Union BNP President Engineer Jahangir Kabir and Kushli Union BNP President Kadar Sheikh attended the rally. BNP leaders and activists from the party’s local units and affiliated organisations also attended the programme.
