Bangladesh seeks priority LNG supplies from Qatar after Hormuz reopening
Bangladesh Foreign Affairs State Minister Humayun Kabir meets Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi.

Bangladesh has sought Qatar’s priority in supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the country once the Strait of Hormuz is reopened and maritime connectivity returns to normal.

The request was made by Foreign Affairs State Minister Humayun Kabir during a meeting with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi in Jeddah on Thursday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the emergency meeting of the 23rd OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

Kabir reiterated Bangladesh’s support for Qatar’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States and praised Doha’s constructive role in promoting regional dialogue, peace and stability.

During the meeting, the Bangladesh state minister urged Qatar to prioritise LNG supplies to Bangladesh after the Strait of Hormuz is reopened and maritime communication becomes normal.

Al-Muraikhi thanked Bangladesh for its support and expressed Qatar’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

The two sides also discussed ways to further strengthen existing bilateral ties, issues of mutual interest and potential areas of cooperation in the future.
