The election was held on
Friday at the department, where former students exercised their voting rights.
The polling drew enthusiasm among alumni from the morning.
Tasnova Hossain was elected
vice-president, while Jobayer Ahmed, Sarker Sakhawat Hossain and Ariful Islam
were elected joint secretaries.
Other elected office-bearers
include Rocky Ahmed as treasurer, Masud Rana as organising secretary, Abrar
Zahin as office secretary, Amirul Islam as literature, cultural and sports
secretary, and Chopol Rahman as international and social welfare secretary.
The executive members are Md
Arman Ali, Ashikur Rahman, Kawsar Khan, Ashikuzzaman Ashik, Saiful Islam, MM
Mujahid Uddin, Abu Saleh Atif, Saikat Saha, Ibrahim Khalil and Moshfikur Rahman
Emon.
Speaking after his election,
General Secretary Arafat Ali Raju thanked the department’s alumni and others
involved in the election.
He said strengthening
communication and unity among alumni and contributing to the development of the
department would be among his key priorities. He also sought the cooperation
and advice of all concerned in carrying out his responsibilities.
President Nazrul Islam also
expressed gratitude to the alumni for electing him. He said the new committee
aims to make the alumni association a more effective and stronger organisation
and work collectively for the interests of the department.
After the results were
announced, the newly elected leaders exchanged greetings and flowers with JnU
Vice-Chancellor Prof Raish Uddin.
JnU Treasurer Prof Sabina Sharmeen, Acting Registrar Prof Gias Uddin, Department Chairman Prof Ashraful Alam, along with other teachers and students, were present during the meeting.
